r/antiwork 16 hr. ago AAY96 Director thinks I'm replaceable and I went for it under 10 secs Manager wants to assign me time consuming coordination tasks on top of my core responsibilities, which they already done once when they asked me to be the 'project lead' where I supervise and manage the team on top of my core duties with NO EXTRA PAY. Called it quits today as soon as she mentioned that if I'm not happy she'll replace me.

Gladly accepted her resignation offer and NOW THEY'RE stuffed as I was the core member on that project which is midway with a bunch of newbies and fresh grads aha. Feeeelz gooood to be alive.

dschk 13h ago Haha look at the time stamp. She was responding promptly until you dropped the bomb and then there was 5 minutes where she definitely realized she messed up haha. Her next response sounded casual but she can't hide she was sweating for five minutes. 4 155 Reply Share ... AAY96 OP. 13h ago Yoo yess finally someone caught on bhahahah

Thistlefizz 14h ago My prediction: she will think you're bluffing and will essentially play chicken right up until the end. She won't train anyone else, won't work on replacing you, and won't put in any plans to have other people take over your work. The Monday after your last day she's going to message you and ask where you are and then flip out when you remind her that you resigned.

solopreneurr. 13h ago Either that or her boss is going to try and get her to smooth it over with OP. So she might play nice for the next few weeks hoping he changes his mind. Then at the very end they'll throw money at OP to get them to stay.

SneakySpoons • 16h ago Feels good to watch it burn when people start doing the work they are paid for, and not all the extra that managers expect for free. Proud of ya. 2.4K Reply Share ... AAY96 OP. 15h ago It's crazy.. "oh sorry if we didn't mention that on the job description" ✪✪✪✪✪.. she literally said that when she made me the project lead with the xtra tasks to supervise the team on top of my core tasks

757_Matt_911 14h ago . I'm so happy that we no longer have a society where employers have all the power. I live vicariously through some of these stories bc I'll never be able to do this until I'm much older. I do hope they learn their lesson. ↑ 198 ↓ Reply Share AAY96 OP. 14h ago We still do unfortunately, it's just the selected few that get to do this and not jeopardize their livelihoods! Rent, family..etc gotta pay the bills somehow

Esau2020 14h ago I love these stories. BOSS: You'd better shape up. You're replaceable, you know. EMPLOYEE: Okay, replace me. I quit. BOSS: No, wait! I need you!

pmaji240 10h ago I put in my resignation with a company and got a call from my direct supervisor about twenty minutes later. She was told to tell me that they would like me to return for a month and were willing to negotiate what that month would look like. Meet with them the following Monday and it's like a disciplinary tone to the meeting. I just listen and keep my mouth shut. They finally give me the offer and it's a pay cut. I just turn it around to them and say, 'no!'

The head of HR made an actual sound like I had said something offensive. They ask me to consider it and get back to them. So I respond with a ridiculous counter offer. Get an email about ten minutes later that they accepted my offer. I've never experienced such conflicting feelings as I did in that moment.

AAY96 OP • 15h ago I couldn't just let her talk to me like that while I haven't literally took a weekend in so long and knows the weight I'm pulling. Literally a one man army on this project.. could've been handled better? For sure. Would it satisfy me this much? No aha

Barkleyslakjssrtqwe • 15h ago Yes you could have. If you have been beaten down for a long time a few extra days is worth gaining all the leverage in a salary negotiation. If the new company gets wind of you already quitting they can lowball. Just a rash emotional decision that can cost you 20% of a potential salary. But at least it was satisfying and a real gotcha to a company who won't care about you in 1 month.

AAY96 OP • 15h ago True! In hindsight. Will tell this story to my grandkids tho. Won't be telling them that I negotiated 20% increase. Could job hop a few times later down the line and get up there, who knows. But yes solid points in terms of not letting your emotions getting the best of ya. Cheers
